By Alan Ayckbourn
Run Dates: 16 – 23 November 2024
Directed by Pauline Walsh
The audition will be in the form of an informal read through at the Millgate Arts Centre, Delph. You don’t need to be a member of Saddleworth Players – but we’ll happily sign you up! Membership is free.
Characters: 3 male
Joe: sixties
He is a blunt, tactless West Yorkshire man who calls a spade a spade. He provides much of the humour but is a grieving man. He believes, after 12 years since her death, that his daughter Julia is trying to contact him and he is determined to find answers which could lay his own personal ghosts to rest.
Andy: thirties
He was Julia’s boyfriend when they were at college. His Yorkshire accent might well have been toned down over the years, so that he could now be a fairly well-spoken man. He is uneasy, distracted and awkward. His own emotional demons are also very much alive.
Ken: late forties to fifties.
Joe introduces him to Andy and says that Ken has psychic powers. It turns out that he hasn’t but Andy realises that they have met in the past, when Ken was the caretaker living in the basement of the house where Julia lived. Ken is quirky, a little bit odd, somewhat strange, even creepy and this gives opportunities for voices and body language.
Additional voiceovers: 1 male (mid-forties), 1 female (early twenties)
We won’t be auditioning on that night for the two voiceovers but if you are interested please email us below.
