SUMMARY:Two by Jim Broadbent
DESCRIPTION: \nA sharp, salty, quickfire evocation of the surface gaiety and underlying melancholia of English pub life.\n \nIn Two we meet the romantics, the drunks, the flirts, the abusive, the poor-but-happy and all manners of drinkers at their local – a perfect reintroduction to Northern pub culture for those of us who currently only have a distant memory of packed nights out, stag dos, jukeboxes, pints of lager and packets of crisps.\nBy Jim Cartwright\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nSponsored by Friezland Properties Ltd\n \nCharity night Sunday 26th September 2021: Saddleworth Rotary\n \nCast & Crew\nLandlord ……………………………………………………………Mark RosenthalLandlady……………………………………………………………………Kate DaviesCrew\nAcknowledgementsThere is one 20 minute interval.\n \n \nDirected by Verity Mann\nSet design ……………………………………………………………Keith BegleySet construction………………………………Keith Begley, Mike CleggStage manager……………………………………………………….Colin WattLighting………………………………………………………………Tim NewboldSound……………………………………………………………. Frank Boocock\n \nDirector’s notesA sharp, salty, quickfire evocation of the surface gaiety and underlying melancholia of English pub life. For those of us who are only just beginning to enjoy the reality of a good pub atmosphere, this witty and moving two-hander gives us an insight into the lives and loves played out, pint in hand, night after night both behind and in front of a crowded bar. This production of ‘Two’ started life as a series of Zoom rehearsals designed to keep the fun of being involved with a show alive and to stave off the boredom of yet another lockdown.Kate and Mark had chosen the perfect, multi-role, two hander for their talents and had asked me to come on board to give them some help with direction. At the time we had no great aspirations to stage it, but when it came time to choose a play to kickstart the Recovery Season, it was clear that our stripped back, prop and virtually set free production was ‘oven ready’ for The Millgate. It has been a joy taking this show from the computer screen to the auditorium and we hope that you enjoy this.\n
