Hazel and Robin are living out their retirement in a cottage on the English east coast. They listen to Radio 4, speak regularly to their children and Hazel never misses a day of yoga practice. When former colleague Rose visits out of the blue, they crack open the parsnip wine. But uncomfortable memories and relationship tensions resurface. On top of this the cottage is at the edge of an eroding cliff, electricity is rationed and there is a Geiger counter beside the door. Rose’s shocking reason for being there and their former careers as nuclear scientists combine to threaten all their futures. Lucy Kirkwood’s play is a gripping drama for our time, which is both epic and intimate.
