Become a Board Director at Millgate Arts Centre
Millgate Arts Centre is a community theatre in Saddleworth with a clear purpose. We are working to Build the Future and we’re building the board to match with several vacancies available.
This is a moment of real change.
We have had some exciting developments in the last 5 years and have exciting plans for summer 2027, but this is not just the development of a building, but the development of a cultural institution.
We are Saddleworth’s Community Theatre
Millgate Arts Centre’s goal is to advance public education in the Arts and in particular
- Present plays of high quality and in a variety of periods and styles.
- To manage the Millgate Arts Centre building in Delph as a cultural and social amenity for Saddleworth.
- To promote an interest in drama by any appropriate means.
And in furtherance of this goal:-
- To foster the use of the Millgate Arts Centre as a cultural social and educational amenity for all people in Saddleworth and as a community centre for all people in Delph, in particular, and in Saddleworth in general.
- To protect and preserve the Millgate Arts Centre as a building of architectural and historic importance.
- To foster and preserve the name of “Saddleworth Players” in the presentation of plays.
- To acquire the assets, but subject to the liabilities, of the charity known as Saddleworth Players.
We are now inviting expressions of interest from individuals who want to help shape this next chapter, and become Board Directors ( of a charity and company limited by guarantee).
We are particularly interested in people with experience in one or more :
- Theatre management
- Commercial experience running a theatre or other organisations
- Buildings, capital projects or venue operations
- Creative and artistic leadership in theatre, film music and the wider cultural community
- Community engagement
- Legal (charity and/or commercial)
- Governance for charities who are also companies limited by guarantee
- Marketing and Communications
- Fund Raising with small and large donors
You don’t need previous board experience.
What matters is:
- Good judgement
- A belief in the power of culture
- An ability to balance ambition with realism
- A willingness to contribute to something bigger than yourself
- This is an active board at a pivotal moment in transition and growth.
