SP NEWS April 2026

Dear Players and Friends,

I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter and were able to make the most of the improving weather. Saying that, I know you’re a hardy lot—supporting the shows, concerts and films at the Millgate despite the driving rain and sub-zero temperatures. Back stage we’ve definitely felt the benefit of the improved insulation and radiators. I don’t think we’ve killed off any stage managers or prompts at all this Season.

2025-26 season

As always, we have a busy few weeks ahead of us as we count down to the run of Wait Until Dark, our psychological thriller. Tickets are selling really well, so do book now to give yourself a chance of booking your preferred seats. You’ll recognised some familiar faces in the cast, but, as always, our audition process is bringing new talent to the stage and extending our Saddleworth Players’ family.

Read through and rehearsals are starting very soon for Blue Stockings, so it’s all systems go in the bar lounge and on stage.

2026-27 season

Work is also underway for the 2026 /27 Season. We are holding a free preview on Sunday 21 June but I’m pleased to announce that we’ll be holding auditions to encourage new actors. Two auditions coming up:

1. Wind in the Willows  by Kenneth Graham directed by Carol Davies Wednesday 6th May 730pm and Sunday 10th May 4pm in the bar DETAILS HERE Playing dates 13-20 November 2026

2. Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo directed by Vince Bowers on Wednesday 20th And 27th May 7.30pm in the bar lounge. DETAILS HERE

The audition will take place as  an informal read through, so no need to feel nervous!

I hope you’re able to make the most of what the other societies that make up the Millgate family have to offer in the next couple of months. NT Live will be showing Arthur Millers’ All My Sons, on the 1st and 2nd May, and In My Shoes will be performing on the 9th May.
